Lauretta Luke Rush Obituary

MILLINOCKET - Lauretta L. "Belle" (Luke) Rush, 84, died Nov. 19, 1996, at a Millinocket hospital. She was born in Millinocket, Oct. 19, 1912, the daughter of James A. and Mary Ellen (Kelly) Luke. She was employed as a nurses aid at Boston City Hospital and various hospitals in the Millinocket area for many years. In later years, she was clerk at the Millinocket District Court until her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond H. Rush in 1961. She was a member and past region of Little Flower Circle, No. 392, Daughters of Isabella; a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, the Millinocket Emblem Club, the AARP of Millinocket and served in various offices in the state AARP. She was a member and past chairman of the Millinocket Town Counciil. Belle served as church financeer at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, selectman for the Town of Millinocket; and also served on the State County and local democratic Committees, the State Election Committee, State Prison Commission, Mental Retardation Commission, the Town of Millinocket Planning Board, State Commission on Aging, MMA Election Executive and Alpha One (Handicapped). She was awarded a 60 service pin from the Katahdin Area Girl Scouts of American in 1995. Surviving are two sons, Robert W. Rush of Durham, N.H. and James R. Rush of Fort Smith, Ark., one daughter, Betsey Dewitt of East Millinocket; one sister, Margaret Bilodeau of West Hills, Calif.; five grandchildren, one great-grandson, several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bill and Helen Lewis, Fred and Emily Lewis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Friends may call at the James G. Dowd Funeral Home, Millinocket, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Millinocket Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to the Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket 04462. The following orgranizations will hold services Wednesday at the funeral home VFW Auxiliary, 2:30 p.m.; American Legion Auxiliary, 2:45 p.m.; the Emblem Club at 7:15 p.m.; and the Daughters of Isabella at 7:30
